A typical zero day spent doing all the necessary hiker chores of laundry, food resupply, eating healthy town food and recharging.
I think I found the best chocolate shake I’ve ever had in a small diner.
I was also able to get another eSIM activated that would see me through to Canada given my current one had just expired. It amazes me just how naked and afraid we feel these days without internet access and it got me reflecting on the many past trips I’ve done without any cell service to communicate, navigate or just get by. We used to do it. Not so now.
New shoes were ordered to be sent to a motel in Butte which I’d collect on arrival. This will be my 4th and final pair of trail runners for this trail.
With additional time on my hands today I did find time to do some touristy things like browsing the many gift shops all selling the same overpriced Yellowstone NP souvenirs. Best of all was the opportunity to shoot a semi-auto rifle at a local gun range. An avid deer hunter and target pistol shooter at home, we just don’t have access to semi-auto rifles at home with such tight licensing restrictions and certainly no access just for fun. You need to be a fully vetted and professional peat controller to access category C & D rifles at home. I relished the opportunity to shoot an AR15. My aim was a little low but at least the recoil lifted my shots.
