Day 109 Lincoln Zero

A standard zero mile rest day in Lincoln today involving a sleep in, in a real bed; eating town food to take in additional calories; getting the laundry done; resupplying with food; drinking beer (for the calories I swear) and kicking back to watch TV taking in the full first season of Colony through the day. It’s great to just rest and put the feet up.

I thought I would try my luck at reaching out to a trail angel Laurie for a ride back to trail tomorrow and texted her. She replied straight away but unfortunately she had an early morning dentist appointment in Missoula tomorrow and wouldn’t be available for a ride. It just so happened as I was walking to the cafe for breakfast a couple headed to a yoga class were headed in my direction and the lady asked “Are you Mick?”. It was Laurie. Like I said yesterday Lincoln is a small town. CDT Hikers are easy to spot in towns like this being out of place from the usual denim, cowboy boots and big belt buckles, walking around in trail runners, hiking shorts and often rain gear if doing laundry; the blokes typically sporting unkempt beards.

We both had a chuckle at the encounter and chatted for a few minutes before her yoga class started. She offered to drive me back to the trail head tomorrow afternoon after getting back from Missoula. I politely declined as I wanted an early start and thanked her profusely on behalf of all hikers for all that she does to help them out, and for her offer to drive me out.
