As with all zero days, while walking zero miles on trail, the only way to get around town as a hiker is to walk. It was definitely not a zero miles walked day. Dubois is a long and skinny town with most of the shops 0.3 miles from where the motels are located.
There is an option for hikers to stay closer in for free with an epistle church offering use of their hall but I prefer my own space in town.
Luckily the motel I was staying in was positioned right in the middle of both a supermarket and laundromat both two blocks away.
Town was extremely busy with tourists being so close to Yellowstone National Park.
The town frontage had that old west look and feel with establishment names like the Outlaw Saloon and Cowboy Cafe. This was true cowboy country with most locals sporting boots, denim jeans, plaid shirts and 10 gallon hats.
All the necessary chores were taken care through the day. Most importantly I made the call to National Parks to secure backcountry permits for Yellowstone National Park coming up.
