26.2 miles
Today was fairly uneventful essentially following the Cochetopa River for the entire day.
Mid morning I did pass the 1000 mile mark. It’s great to reach some milestones along the way.

Late afternoon I ran into cowboys on horseback mustering cattle up the river.
But the real highlight of the day was at my final water source before making camp. It was the only reliable water source available and I needed to fill up as I was out. Poking over a small rise towards it I startled to see the massive bulk of a moose standing in the water no more than 20 metres away. Not entirely sure what to do I started by making it aware of presence by calling it. It looked at me nonchalantly and continued on with its business. I didn’t want to get too close but needed water. I kept talking passively to it like you do a horse and crept past to a point where there some bushes between us. Still it was close enough. There was no longer a direct view to each other and I continued to talk to it to let it know I was still there as I quickly filled my water bladder and filtered into my bottles. That was awesome.
