T-minus 2 days – Lordsburg

A low key travel day today with an early morning Greyhound bus ride over 5 hours to Lordsburg, the jumping on point for the CDT. Just one more shuttle ride on Friday to get to the border and I’ll be off.

I feel like I haven’t time all my travel quite right as I’ve found I have an extra day up my sleeve tomorrow to just laze about. Plenty of time to scope the small town and arrange some food boxes to be sent ahead. I have two to send ahead for upcoming sections to localities with next to no shops to resupply from and what limited supplies there are, are massively expensive given the remote locations.

There is food to be arranged for the first leg I’ll carry out and the second leg too. I estimate it will take around 4 days for the 85 miles from the Mexican border back to Lordsburg and another 4 days onto Silver City. If I shop for food for the second leg into Silver City tomorrow I can leave a food box at my motel, which I’ll be back to in four days, saving valuable time when back in town. Town days are never really rest days with washing to be done, food to be found etc… every bit of time I can claw back means its earlier back out onto trail and keep moving forward.

I’ve visited the post office already to grab some priority mail boxes, bringing back so many memories of resupplying on the Pacific Crest Trail.

Starting to catch a few hikers around town already, both coming back into town from the first leg and those heading out tomorrow on the shuttle. Matthew from the UK is camped in the motel room next door to mine and we caught up for a great introductory chat. His first long distance hike. He has picked a beauty to get started on!
