AAWT Day 11: Mount Hotham Zero Day

Zero miles walked on track today but quite a few trips back and forth to The General. I’m now on a first name basis with the waitress Gemma having had breakfast there, returning for lunch later in the day and for a few trail snacks to see me through to my next food drop.

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to source cheese and salami from the small store as planned so it will be back to peanut butter wraps for lunches during the next stretch. Gemma was also able to weave her magic with the chef and have him make up a breakfast wrap for me take away for tomorrows breakfast as I’ll be off before opening hours.

A very windy day here with wind speed over 50km. A good one to sit out and not hike in. Plenty of time to set by the fire and bring this blog up to date. Looking at the forecast ahead there is likely snow over the next few days. That is not so bad through the next stretch because if I can do the distances I expect I’ll be able to move from hut to hut.

Update: back at The General again and I’m in with the locals, meeting Emily and Andrew for dinner and having more drinks than I should over a game of darts, which I must say we won. The Hotham locals are a great bunch and showed me what the small mountain community was all about. Thanks go out to Simon the chef who has kept me fed for the past 36 hours. He took me into the bowels of the kitchen to show me one of the best views on the mountain.
